Guillaume Martin is a pure climber, capable of climbing the biggest passes with disconcerting ease.

Alongside his early cycling career, he continued his studies until he obtained a Master's degree in philosophy in 2015. His studies and love for philosophy led him to write a play (Plato vs. Platoche) and a book (Socrates on a Bike) that earned him the nickname of the "philosophical cyclist" in the peloton.
In 2013, he was an intern with the Sojasun team, then with the FDJ.fr team in 2014, but neither team recruited him after the season.
In 2015, in his final year as an amateur in the U23 ranks, he won Liège-Bastogne-Liège espoirs as well as a stage in the Tour de l'Avenir. Thanks to his successes, he signs his Wanty-Groupe Gobert.

In 2017, thanks to the invitation received by the Belgian team, the young French rider takes the start for the first time of the Tour de France. There he will take an honorable 23rd place in the general classification.
He finally won his first professional victory in August at the Tour du Limousin, and then his first general classification in a stage race in September at the Tour du Gévaudan - Languedoc Roussillon, where he also won the first stage.
He repeated the feat shortly thereafter by winning the second stage solo at the Tour of Tuscany, allowing him to claim the overall classification in the process.

He followed that up with a first podium in a World Tour race when he finished third overall in the Critérium du Dauphiné.
In September, he achieved his best finish in the Tour de France by finishing eleventh and best Frenchman. Looking ahead, Cofidis says it wants to build a team around him to best support him in major races in the future.
Selected to take part in the road world championships as a teammate, he played a key role in compatriot Julian Alaphilippe's success at the Imola circuit in the road race.
In 2020, he also takes part in his first Vuelta in Spain. Caught in a curb, he lost any chance at the overall classification but won the best climber classification thanks to his numerous attacks throughout the race.
