Team KMC Orbea is a professional mountain bike team that has been around since 1998. Feel like everything about the cycling teams that compete once the season kicks off? Today, we're zooming in on an iconic cross-country outfit: the KMC Orbea team.
Created in 1998 in France, Team KMC Orbea is a leading figure in the cross-country landscape worldwide. The Elite professional cycling team competes in XC races on the international UCI mountain bike calendar.
Managed by Michel Hutsebaut since its founding, the team is now under the sporting direction of Pierre Lebreton.
While it began as Bianchi Atlas, the team later took on several names as the sponsorship ball went on: Gitane Eurostar, Gitane Spectra, BH SR Suntour KMC, KMC Ekoï SR Suntour, KMC Ekoï Orbea, and finally KMC Orbea, its current name.
In 2019, bike manufacturer Orbea becomes the team's main partner alongside KMC, the title sponsor specializing in chain manufacturing.
Ekoï has the honor of equipping this incredible mountain bike team with equipment to match its achievements: helmets and glasses.
The KMC Orbea team has 5 cyclists of different nationalities, including Victor Koretzky who is representing France on the team for his 9th season. Born in 1994, he became a professional mountain bike racer in 2014. A multiple-time world champion in team relays, Victor finished 10th overall in the elite cross country World Cup in 2019. That same year, he won the French championships in Alpe d'Huez!"
Also in the French colors: young Luca Martin, a two-time silver medalist at the World Junior Mountain Bike Championships, who joins the team for his first year at the under-23 level.
The two Frenchmen will compete in this season's UCI calendar events alongside the big names of the discipline:
Denmark's Malene Degn (3rd season);
Two-time Dutch champion Milan Vader (3rd season);
Switzerland's Thomas Litscher (3rd season);
Spain's multi-disciplined Oliver Aviles (1st season).
After more than 20 years of existence, the KMC Orbea team has reached new heights! The riders' performances have lifted the team to the highest level with victories in the most prestigious XC races around the globe.
Just like in 2016, the team finishes the 2020 season at the top of the UCI Mountain Bike Team World Rankings. The 2021 season is shaping up to be a brilliant one!
